Virtual
casinos is a term often interchanged with the more common reference,
online casinos. The term virtual means that something artificial
is created to imitate the instance of the original. The term is
most often associated with virtual reality, which is the representation
of a full environment being artificially presented to your senses.
This often leads people to think of a virtual casino as a virtual
reality version of a casino. Virtual reality machines however require
full head-sets to immerse the participant into a 3D environment.
Virtual casinos to that degree do not exist yet to the best of my
knowledge. But don't be surprised if they are on the way.
Webmasters
are constantly trying to reinvent the Internet to be more reflective
of real life. Virtual casinos webmasters are no exception, in fact
they are probably in the business much more than many others. Casino
game programmers in combination with casino webmasters can certainly
present an impressive and surprisingly immersive environment for
a naturally limited medium. As bandwidth increases more reality
will be flowing down the pipe. With more capacity we will begin
to have realistic sounds and perhaps light shows that bring Vegas
to mind. Unless some form of standardized 3D immersion technology
become predominant on the Internet over the next few years, I doubt
we will be seeing virtual casinos quite the way so many imagine
it. But with each passing year the online casinos that we do see
are becoming more and more a realistic experience. With the expense
of going to Vegas or Atlantic City, going online is the next best
thing, and many people are making this realization. That is, of
course, if you don't have the luxury of an immersive 3D weekly poker
game.
